He wipes his sword clean of
(his own - no one's)
blood and turns to look after her as she moves through
(the fair)
the gathered crowd.
(The black wood of the deck shimmers with wavy mirages under the killing sun.)
The captain glares at
(himself himself Jack himself the name's Sparrow)
the assembled, silently staring crew.
(It looks real.)
(Maybe it is.)
"We have lost speed, and therefore time. Precious time. Which cannot be recovered, once lost. Do you understand?"
("Aye, Captain!")
Jack turns to one side, sheathing his sword with a metallic sound. "Do you now?"
He strides forward down the empty deck.
(It was always empty.)
(Except when it wasn't.)
"It will all have to be redone. All of it! And let this serve as a lesson to the lot of you."
