bringmethatnpc: (ship at sea)

(no subject)

Everything in Panama City had gone mostly according to plan, a rare happenstance for the pirates in this motley crew, and the more superstitious among them spent the first few days on board their new vessel debating whether this meant good luck or bad, fair wind or foul.

The Spanish ship they'd stolen isn't large or particularly pleasing to the eye, being in need of some new paint and wood maintenance, but it's seaworthy and swift before the wind, and most importantly, well-stocked for a long voyage.

And a long journey to Singapore it will be.

Will's head doesn't so much turn, as his eyes flick to the side, where he knows Barbossa is.

"What's their history?"

It rarely occurs to Will that he shouldn't be asking questions.

"Ay," she half laughs, half croons, good humor returning. Her dark eyes are full of snapping light and amusement. "They be pirates, hm? A pirate's history."

Details should not concern her--not those of these petty men and their petty wars. She resents the idea that they might; hates further the fact that they must. "Barbossa, he a persuasive man. Ye'll need his silver tongue to get you close to your desire."

Will's eyes dart back, fixing on her again.

"...My desire," he echoes, with trace of a question in his voice. He wants to hear it from her.

Her smile doesn't falter or flicker, but it changes; turns softer, sweeter. She holds his gaze without shying her own away, and nods, once, slowly.

"Such a desire." It's like the sigh of the wind through the rigging. "To be loyal, but to who is it? What is it ye want, William Turner? Do ye know?"

"To save my father," he says promptly, but then he looks back over the deck, watching for someone.

"And Elizabeth."

To marry her, to save her, (although she doesn't need saving) to have her as his own. He doesn't make it clear.

"A noble cause." She does not follow his gaze, but watches his face with a trace of sadness that disappears almost instantly.

"One to be faithful to, an' faith is costly. Many have paid far beyond their means for such a fickle thing."

Will looks back at her, more questions rising.

But this time he chooses not to ask them. Maybe it's just not his place to know.

He just knows his initial fears of Tia Dalma are fading. Into what though, he doesn't know.

He looks back out to sea.

Sweet William; brave and true.

She watches him a moment longer from behind a wild tangle of thick coiling hair. It is not in her way to give such information for free, but who would pay this price? Nothing young William has would be of any use to her.

But she can't have him distracted. He must find the way to the Black Pearl and her wicked captain. "Find the charts of Sao Feng," she says, abruptly. "They will give the way, your path an' ours."

So saying, she releases the railing and turns to go, her skirts brushing against his calf.
